BLUEBIRD (Female)

The female bluebird has lighter blue feathers than the male, has a rusty red chest and white underparts. A gregarious bird that dines on earthworms, insects and spiders, it is often found in small flocks. While its numbers have been in decline due to competition with other birds for nesting hollows, adding bluebird nesting boxes to your backyard can help reverse the situation. Bluebirds prefer open fields and meadows close to woodlands and a water source.

All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood. The bluebird measures 6 inches from beak to tail, is 3.5 inches from head to foot and has an overall height of 6.75 inches.
