Golden Eagle
GOLDEN EAGLE
The Golden Eagle, one of the best known birds of prey in the Northern Hemisphere, is the most widely distributed species of eagle. With its agility and speed coupled with its powerful feet and sharp talons, it captures small ground animals such as squirrels, hares and rabbits. Its wing span averages an amazing 6 feet 8 inches. Nests are built in high cliffs which they will return to for several breeding years. The Golden Eagle is an excellent hunter and has been used in falconry for centuries. Because of its incredible hunting skills some ancient cultures regard it with mystic reverence, and even today it is one of the most extensively studied species of raptor in the world.
All of our birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are are metal and base is wood.
The Golden Eagle carving measures 11.5 inches from beak to tail and has an overall height of 14.25 inches.
