Ruby-Crowned Kinglet

The little RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET forages along the ground flicking its wings hoping to startle insects from their hiding places. It has olive-green upperparts and a bright red patch on its crown, which flashes open only when it is excited. Its nest hangs from a tree branch and is made of moss, lichen, leaves and feathers.

All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.
