Ivory Billed Woodpecker
IVORY BILLED WOODPECKER
A Brand New Carving offered for the first time!
Once throught to be extinct, an article in National Geographic published in April 2005 claims that bird experts have seen the Ivory Billed Woodpecker in a remote area of wetland forests in Arkansas. Eight independent sightings have been reported since then, all within two miles of each other in the Big Woods area of Arkansas, a large area of swamps and floodplain forests. One of the largest woodpeckers in the world, it has a wingspread of 3 feet and an average length of 20 inches. The disappearance of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker has been tied to extensive logging and the destruction of its habitat of mature virgin forests. However, scientists are optimistically looking for more Ivory Bills as its habitats are now protected and expanding.
The Ivory Billed Woodpecker carving is striking with its contrasting colors of black, white and red. It is exceptional in its realism and detail and is mounted on a stand of hand-carved wood. A large carving, it has an overall height of 13 inches, is 12 inches from beak to tail, has a depth of 7 inches and an approximate width of 5 inches. This is a hard-to-find carving and one that will please even the most discriminating collector.
All of our birds are carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), are hand-painted with acrylic paint, have glass eyes and metal feet.
Order your hand-carved Ivory Billed Woodpecker before it becomes extinct!
