Evening Grosbeak
EVENING GROSBEAK
The Evening Grosbeak is a handsome heavy-set finch with striking contrasts of yellow, black and white. It is found in coniferous forests across Canada and in the western mountains of the United States and Mexico but has now spread far to the southern and eastern U. S. They forage in tree tops and bushes or on the ground looking for seeds, berries and insects. A social bird, during the winter months, it is often found in flocks feeding at backyard feeders.
This vivid carving of the Evening grosbeak sits on a perch that resembles a tree stump. The carving has an overall height of 7 inches; the bird is 4.25 inches high and 7.25 inches from beak to tail. All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.
