Barn Swallow on Reed

The Barn Swallow is found throughout the Northern Hemisphere in fields, farms, lakes and marshes, often nesting in barn rafters. It is a handsome bird with blue-black upper feathers, cinnamon colored underparts and a deeply forked tail.

The Barn Swallow carving is beautifully done with an exquisite forked tail.  It is mounted on a small wooden perch with mossy embellishments.  All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.

The Barn Swallow measures 6.75 inches from beak to tail, is 3 inches high with an overall height of 5.25 inches.

This is another beautiful carving--quite detailed and delicate. The pictures don't really do it justice--the actual carving is much nicer.
