White Egret on Weathered Wood
Description
White Egret on Weathered Wood
This spectacular carving of the Egret is mounted on a piece of driftwood that contrasts with the white plumage of this graceful shorebird. Found in shallow coastal wetlands the egret has a delicately curved neck, a long pointed black beak, black legs and yellow feet. At one time the bird was hunted for plumes which sold for astronomical prices and used as decorations for women's hats. The population of the egret was reduced to dangerously low levels, but now is protected by the Migratory Bird Act and the birds are once again frequently seen in our waterways.
The egret is 12 inches high and 12 inches from bill to tail. The wood selected for the base will vary in height and length. All of our birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.
This is an incredible carving that will sit on a beautiful and unusual piece of weathered wood. A perfect gift for yourself or some lucky person!
