Harris's Hawk

A very social hawk, Harris's hawk is the only hawk that regularly hunts for its prey as a team.  The hawks cooperate to surround their prey and flush it out for others to catch. Young hawks appear to imitate catching prey as they play at catching insects or jumping on sticks.  The hawks live in groups of up to 7 members and will take food to a hawk that has been injured. They are prized birds for use in falconry due to their intelligence and social nature.

A handsome hawk of the Southwest, it is a standout with bold feathers of dark brown and chestnut red, yellow facial markings and white tipped tail feathers.

All of our birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show texture and detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.

The Harris's hawk carving measures 10.25 inches from beak to tail and 7 inches from the head to the top of the base. The carving has an overall height of 13 inches.

This is a truly magnificent carving and you are sure to be pleased!
