Wood Thrush
WOOD THRUSH
The Wood Thrush is known for its serene flutelike songs heard at daybreak, and again from high in a treetop perch, it sings from dusk until silenced by darkness. This somewhat shy bird is found searching for invertebrates through leaf litter in moist forests and woodlots but also in parks and country gardens. It is camouflaged by its cinnamon brown upperparts, but when it pops up to look around, its speckled white breast is revealed.
The bird measures 6 inches from beak to tail, and the carving has an overall height of 6 inches.
All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.
