Description

RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER (on birch log)

The Red-Bellied Woodpecker is a very common woodpecker making its home from forest edges to urban parks.  You can enjoy the beauty of its black-and white zebra pattern with its colorful red crown and it won't make a noise! It has a slight reddish wash on its belly which is difficult to see.  It nests in tree cavities and eats a variety of foods including insects, fruits and vegetables.

The Red-Bellied Woodpecker sits on a tall wooden stump painted to look like birch. All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood. The overall measurement of this piece is 13 inches; the bird measures 9 inches from beak to tail and 5 1/4 inches from head to foot.
