More raspberry than purple, the PURPLE FINCH is easily identified with its bright plumage. A common visitor to winter feeders, during the spring it forages in trees and hops along the ground searching for seeds and caterpillars. The males will often sing in chorus during the springtime.
All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood. The purple finch measures 6 inches from beak to tail, 3.25 inches from head to foot and has an overall height of 5.75 inches
