Lesser Goldfinch (on stump)

The Lesser Goldfinch is somewhat smaller than the American Goldfinch. It has a black crown, yellow underparts and a white patch at the base of the wing.  Found in the southwestern United States and up along the Pacific coastline, it will feed upon the weed seeds in your back yard as it sings its pleasant-sounding song.This carving is mounted on a small wooden perch. 

All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.

The lesser goldfinch measures 5.25 inches from beak to tail, 3 inches from head to foot and has an overall height of approximately 4 inches.
