Description

ACORN WOODPECKER

The aptly named Acorn Woodpecker pounds acorns into indivually drilled holes, storing them for its winter feasting.  Recognized by its colorful face pattern of white, black, red and yellow, it is found along the Pacific Coast from Baja California to Washington. A social bird, groups of acorn woodpeckers will forage together and help protect each others nests and food supply.

All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show texture and detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass and feet are copper. The base is wood.

The woodpecker measures 5.5 inches from head to tail and has an overall height of 8.75 inches.
