With its green irridescent plumage, swept-back crest and white flare down its neck, the Wood Duck is one of the most distinctive and uniquely-colored waterfowl. Living in wooded swamps, rivers and ponds it nests high in the cavities of trees or in nesting boxes built close to wetlands.
The carving measures 11.5 inches from beak to tail and is 4 inches high. The Wood Duck is hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass.
