The Semipalmated Sandpiper is an attractive shorebird with gray-brown upperparts and white feathers underneath. It joins other shorebirds running along the beach probing the sand for insects and small mollusks and crabs. It migrates in large flocks from the Atlantic Coast to the central Great Plains and is a true "snowbird" as it sometimes is found wintering in Florida.
All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show texture and detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass and feet are copper. The base is wood.
The Semipalmated Sandpiper carving measures 7.5 inches from beak to tail and has an overall height of 7 inches.
