A solitary bird, the Loon frequents quiet lakes spending most of its time sleeping, only going on land to nest. The presence of nesting loons indicates a wilderness in pristine condition. Eating fresh or saltwater fish, it can dive up to 200 feet to catch its meal.
This graceful carving of the loon is magnificent! The varied patterns on the back and wings of the bird are painted in vivid detail. It measures 13.25 inches in length, is 5.5 inches high and is 6 inches wide. This elegant carving is certain to please.
All of our birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show texture and detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass and feet are copper.
