Red Tailed Hawk

The majestic Red-Tailed Hawk is found in a variety of habitats from forests and fields to deserts, grasslands, and tropical rainforests.  A common hawk, widespread across North America, it will live in close proximity to people.  The most famous red-tailed hawk, named "Pale Male," lived in New York City where it was the first known red-tail to nest and raise its young.  It was the subject of a book entitled Red-Tails in Love: A Wildlife Drama in Central Park.

All of our birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand- feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, the feet are metal and the base is wood.

The carving has an overall height of 12 inches; the bird itself is 10 inches from beak to tail.
