Description

AMERICAN KESTREL

The American kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America.  It is found all over the continent and can often be seen perched on wires along roadsides.  Its long tail is obvious in flight and the wings are pointed.  During courtship it will feed the female in the air.

This beautiful carving of the colorful male kestrel is approximately 10 inches high and is perched on a log*.  This life-sized carving is of basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), the eyes are glass and feet are metal.  Acrylic paint is used and a feathering tool gives the bird texture to resemble feathers.

NOTE: *The first four photos show the kestrel on wood; the fifth and sixth photos show the kestrel on simulated stone.  When ordering, please indicate in the message section which kestrel base you prefer.
