Dark-eyed junco (on stump)

The slate-colored Dark-Eyed Junco ranges from northern Alaska into Mexico and from coast to coast. The sweet dark eyes on this carving give it great expression.  It is mounted on a tree stump.

All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.

The dark-eyed junco measures 5.5 inches from beak to tail, 3 inches from head to foot and has an overall height of 5.5 inches.

Terrific carving of this little bird. Great feather detail and painted very well. Eyes and feet look real.

I'm not really familiar with North American birds, but from a carving perspective I think it has nice detail. Very lifelike.
