Chipping Sparrow
CHIPPING SPARROW
One of the tamest sparrows, the Chipping Sparrow will eat from your hand! It is also one of the most attractive sparrows with a chestnut cap and handsome brown and white streakings. It is named for its song, often heard singing even during the night from its high perch in a tree. In the summer, the Chipping Sparrow can commonly be found in towns and gardens and is a common sight for bird watchers and observers. It ranges from Alaska throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico.
The bird measures 5 1/2 inches from beak to tail, and the carving has an overall height of 7 inches.
All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.
