Bluebird, female (with worm)

This exquisite carving is of a female bluebird ready to feed her young with a small worm she holds in her bill. The bird is perched on (simulated) barbed wire mounted on a wooden stump with a green mossy base.

All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood. The bluebird measures 6 inches from head to tail, is 3.75 inches from head to foot and has an overall height of 11.5 inches.
