Blue Jay with Open Beak
BLUE JAY (WITH OPEN BEAK)
The Blue Jay is a showy bird with blue feathering, bold white spots on its wings and tail and a black necklace. This intricate carving features the blue jay with its beak open and wings crossed in back giving it an even more realistic look. Make sure to notice that even the inside of the beak is carved in detail!
The blue jay is mounted on a tree branch on a mossy base. It is widespread in woodlands and residential areas with big shade trees but has adapted to cities and parks.
All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), feathered to show detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.
The blue jay is approximately 10 inches from beak to tail and has an overall height of 8 1/2 inches. This is a stunning carving with wonderful coloring and detail!
