Goldfinch Pair on Branch
Description
GOLDFINCH PAIR ON BRANCH
Often called the "wild canary," the American Goldfinch lives throughout North America. Goldfinches are easily identified by the bright yellow color and their roller-coaster flight pattern. They are often found eating dandelion seeds or at a backyard feeder.
This carving shows the male and female goldfinch perched on a branch of a deciduous tree. The female builds a nest of bark, weeds and grass with a rim of spiderwebs and caterpillar silk, so tightly woven that it can hold water.
The goldfinch are life-sized each measuring 5.25 inches from beak to tail and 3 inches from head to foot. The carving has an overall height of 7.5 inches, a width of 9 inches and a depth of 7.5 inches.
All of our life-size birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carvable wood that does not split and takes paint well), feathered to show texture and detail, hand-painted with acrylic paint and have glass eyes and metal feet.
