Eastern Meadowlark on Birch Log
The cheerful Eastern Meadowlark inhabits fields and meadows, and the carving shows it singing its musical song perched on a birch log cut from the New Hampshire woods. A chunky brown bird, it has a bright yellow breast crossed by a black V and white patches on either side of its short wide tail. The painting and carving are done in great detail--even the inside of the open beak is carved.
All of our life-sized birds are hand-carved from basswood (a very carveable wood that does not split and takes paint well), hand-feathered to show texture and detail and painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are glass, feet are metal and base is wood.
The meadowlark measures 9 inches from beak to tail, 3.75 inches high and the carving has an overall height of 6.5 inches.
